Panda3D Rebrand/Website

Reviving a Game Engine

Panda3D is an open source 3D engine for rendering and game development, which was created by Disney in the early 2000’s. Although Disney has little involvement nowadays, the engine is still used for several Imagineering projects and is currently maintained with the help of Carnegie Mellon University’s Entertainment Technology Center.

While Panda3D is an extremely powerful engine, its popularity had diminished over the years due to the rise of mainstream game engines such as Unreal Engine and Unity. I was approached in May of 2018 about redesigning the website to go along with the launch of the engine’s first major release in several years, which aimed to bring attention back to Panda3D and display that the engine was still being actively updated.

Custom WordPress Solutions

In order to keep the website more actively updated, the decision was made by the Panda3D team to migrate their old custom PHP website to WordPress. In addition to designing the theme that accompanied this migration, I also implemented custom features such as a custom plugin for SDK downloads and a basic page builder.
